Mongolian Scarf Project
A woman called Caitríona came to our school to tell us about Mongolia. She told that if we wanted to we could knit a scarf 50 inches long for children in Mongolia. A scarf is given as a special gift in Mongolia because the climate in the Winter it is –40 degrees.
We saw pictures of Mongolian children and how they live. When we knit the scarves, the children in Mongolia are going to make us a badge made from felt. Caitríona and her friends are going to drive to all the way to Mongolia to deliver the scarves in four vans which they will also give as a gift to the people in Mongolia.
Caitríona told us "It costs €6,000 to drill a well in Mongolia. There are 12,000 miles between Ireland and Mongolia." She is trying to get 240 students in Mayo to knit a scarf. Each student will try to collect 50c per inch thus collecting €25 per scarf.
In our school we think this is a very well worth while project. We raised €592 for this worthy cause.
