OUR TRIP TO ST. MUREDACH’S CATHHEDRAL

On the 9 of September, the two 6 classes went down to St Muredach’s Cathedral to learn some history. First, we were split up into groups and were given questions to answer. We found out lots of new information we hadn’t known before.
The building of the Cathedral started 1829, and it was built of limestone. We spent some time examining Stations of the Cross. The organ above the main entrance is one of the largest in Ireland.
A lot of changes have taken place since it was first built. The Baptismal Font used to be beside the altar but now it is at the back of the church. When the stained glass windows were first put in, it would have cost about £125! That was a lot of money then. After that, we said our prayers and left. On returning to school, we passed the Humbert Monument. We spent some time reading the inscription on the monument. Our teachers told us some facts about the 1798 Rising. We found this information interesting. We returned to school bursting with information. An enjoyable day was had by all.
