Scoil Iosa, Ballina, Co.Mayo

We were delighted to welcome the black and her ten chicks for a visit one sunny day in June. We had a chance to hold a chick and gently rub it. It was so soft. The black hen was not too happy but she did not peck anyone. We saw the food she and the chicks eat. She sat on the eggs for three weeks before the little fluffy chicks appeared. They cuddle up under her feathers to keep warm.
